From Seed to Harvest
How It’s Grown & our History
Our Roots
The Tintico Coffee Family
Tintico coffee was started by the Ramirez family who has owned and operated farming in Colombia for the last 65 years. The farm is located in the mountains of Tello, Huila. The family immigrated to Canada in 2008 and worked hard to build a life here. They started the company as a way to connect their Colombian and Canadian Heritage.
Tintico Coffee’s goal is to bring fresh Colombian coffee with the best aroma, texture, and flavor directly from the farm to people’s tables.
How It’s Grown
From Seed to Harvest
High quality coffee beans are selected and placed in a planter. Once the beans have begun to grow into a plant, they are transported to the mountains and placed into the ground.
After about 1-2 years the plants grow into coffee trees that are ready to be harvested. Tintico Cafe has two main harvests per year, one in May and the other in September. However, Huila has special weather conditions that allow for the beans to also be harvested in between these two times.
The beans are collected, washed, and the red shell is removed. The farmers will also remove any defective beans .The beans are sun-dried in a special area on the farm.
Once dried, the beans are brought to the manufacturer, where the second shell is removed and the beans are toasted. Some of the beans will be ground, while others remain whole. They are then packaged and ready to be imported to Canada.
